Please list the pros and cons of centaur chess. Are those who play centaur chess considered cheats? Even if centaur was allowed, is it still cheating?

The cons of centaur chess are that I get tired of the clattering noise my opponent's hooves make when he walks around.  There are no pros because no one gets paid for using a program to think for them.

I like one type of centaur game play. The human choose 2 or 3 moves and analyze them with the computer to verify the best one among those. Of course that should only be done if the opponent is aware of that and willing to do the same! Also it should not be a very long game. Maybe 30 min or something like that to force the player into making some moves without the computer help.

Pro: For low ranked players (like me) it might train your brain to see the best and worst among your regular moves. It can also help your realize that all your choices are really bad. Tongue Out

Finding a good move in centaur not easier from find a good move in OTB. Although you have a computer helping you, your opponent has one too, and the main idea of centaur is to use a computer as a calculator in your analysis. Without certain level of understanding chess you can't do that and probably will just play for line engine proposing, which is obviously doesn't mean YOU are playing

Lol if everyone just use his computer and not his brain how could someone get 2700+ ICCF?

I have played centaur chess in the engine room at Playchess and on FICGS. I found it too time consuming, especially playing at correspondence time controls on FICGS.

The pros are the players who are upfront about their engine use; the cons are the ones who are not.
