I just hit 2100 on puzzles, but i'm 1100 on rapids. and im about 700-800 in blitz and bullet. What are your ratings compared to puzzels, and what could we do to improve our play when we have a strong puzzle rating.

A gap of several hundred points in puzzles to game ratings is common; chess.com puzzles rating is inflated to game ratings. 2100 puzzles rating for 1100 rapid is a large gap though, but also not super out there. Maybe a gap of 500-700 points I'd say is common; since yours is about 1000 points apart, I'd say this just means your tactical vision is strong for your level. Maybe tactics is your natural strength, but puzzles are also slightly different in that you KNOW there is a solution and you are looking for a tactic, whereas in a real game you don't know if a winning idea exists and you don't know if the best continuation is tactical (or positional, or defensive or whatever else).

My current rapid on chess.com is about 2000 and my puzzles are about 2800, so about 800 point gap for me. I don't think your 1000 gap from puzzles to games is as large as it may sound. happy.png

How much time do you spend solving a tactics puzzle?
How much time do you spend deciding on a move in a game?
There is your answer.

There is no correlation, I think.

1134 rapid, 2300 puzzle, now. I reached 2465 puzzle rating when I was 1050 rapid.

Puzzles rating just indicates your puzzles-solving skill, almost unhelpful in real game.

puzzle rating is over 1000 higher

puzzles are sooooo annoying - solve = +5, wrong = -12, you need to solve more than 3 times as many as you get wrong to make any (slow) progress

Indeed, if one insists with puzzles is only because he likes to solve them. I like it. it gives me satisfation. If one believes that it results in a significant improvement in playing strength, I’m afraid it’s a waste of time.

I prefer puzzles to games at the moment.
