Queen protects the king

Hello everyone !

I am not a good chess player, only played here and there with some of my friends sometimes. I joined this forum to get some opinions from people who know more about this game.

I recenrly ran into one of the fancy quotes everyone posts on facebook, which says :

"Every man needs a woman when his life is a mess, because just like in a game of chess, the queen protects the king"

This quote just made me think why is the queen the most powerfull figure in the chess ? Why does the queen protect the king ? Is it just, that in time when the chess game was invented the king was the most importiant of all, even more than queen, or does that symbolise something more ? How do you understand this and what do you think ?

Sorry for any bad english

Last emperor is the king.

In the begining of the game Queen is not the stro gest pie e

But after some exchanges it is the most destructive piece on the board, because it has power to double attack.

The queen doesn't protect the king. She keeps the opposing queen from flirting with her man. That's what she does.

That quote sounds it was made up by someone who has only the most basic knowledge of chess.

It's not particularly striking or true.

Dear OP

The king in chess is Shahinshah as Indians call it and you would already know chess originated from India. He is not a King like alexander to go to frontier first and  fight a war. Rather Shahin shah or the king of chess knows every dimension of war and his army attacks per his command. He is supposed to be a an aging, old and wise king who dont actively fight but see the war through. Once he is captured the army would surrender for they would have no one to command. The peice we call as queen today wasnt originally the queen , it was the cheif counsellor of the king named fers. Centuries later , dont really know what the reason was , but people wanted it to be queen and the queen then wasnt as powerful as now.  If am not wrong the original queen moves one square diagnally and does nothing more than that. During 1600's spaniards gave combined power of rook and bishop to queen making it the most powerful peice in chess.

The Queen is the most powerful piece because it's not about her ability to move all over the board but the sacrifices she is willing to make to save her king's life
