How do you get a PGN of a game I played (I think that's what it's called) to save or post for people to review?  I know it's very simple to do but I can't figure this out.

Click on one of the games in your archive and then click "Get PGN". You copy that and paste it into one of these threads (or wherever you want) using the game editor icon (the chessboard that shows on the top left of the text box).

I have a Apple Imac and when I click "get PGN"  I get an error message that says something like "chess cannot open a PGN when it's in the moves setting" with a picture of a 3 dimensional chessboard.  If I try to save it by downloading the file, I get same message and picture of 3D board.  If I view the game and copy the link from my web browser, I am able to click on link and open the game. Is that the same thing as a PGN?

Sorry, I don't know anything about overcoming the problems of an imac.

If you would paste in what you get from the web browser, we could tell if it is a PGN. Here is a sample PGN from wikipedia:

Click the PGN tab for whatever game you want, you should be given an option on how to open it. Don't open it with chess default, change it to textfile. It should open a text tab that looks similar to notmtwain's last post. Copy that entire text, then click the chess diagram icon here above the text portion, it's the first icon top left when you are writing a post here. Then click game or sequence of moves option, hit continue, then paste that entire notation thing into the PGN game option, and hit continue. That'll fill in all information needed and you can continue hitting continue and then insert which will put the diagram embeded in your post here.

Hi NotMtTwain and Windwill64....I followed your advice and I came close to posting a game, but I was not able to delete the text above the game as seen in previous post.  Do you know what option allows me to do so?   If I click edit after posting, it still does let me delete the text above game.  Thanks

RonaldJosephCote

The message you got, "chess cannot open a PGN WHEN IT'S IN THE MOVES SETTINGS.   You can't post a game IN PROGRESS. It has to be a completed game.

It was completed.  That's the problem.  Look at above game just posted.  I am close to figuring this out, but I can not delete the text above the game board which is not needed.  Most people just post the game board and we can click the buttons to move the pieces.

My suggestion might be the scenic route but if you can open it in Microsoft Office, can you then just cut the top of the page??  I've never posted a game.  I just learnt how to post pictures 2 weeks ago.
