Lots of possibilities.
In the Netherlands, in weekend tournaments, 2 hours per game is normal. But there are faster and slower tournaments as well. Rapid is usually like 25 minutes, blitz is typically 5.
With electronic clocks these days, it becomes more customary to have a small increment as well (like 1hr58 for the game, plus 5 seconds every move), so that people don't try win on time in situations like king+rook vs king+rook.
What's nowadays called "classical", and currently used in e.g. Corus, is 2 hours for 40 moves, then 1 hour extra for the next 20 moves, then 30 minutes for the rest of the game.
Many FIDE tournaments use 1hr30 for the game, plus 30 seconds added per move.
Et cetera.
Hey Everyone,
I've never played in a live Chess tournament but i was wondering what is the standard amount of time put on the time clock?
