RACISM IN CHESS. White moves first

Sort:
Homsar
White is considered to be a sad color in some Eastern cultures, and in Europe Queens considered white as the color of mourning during the medieval times... Could it be that the white player was allowed to go first since the black player already had the advantage of the happier color?
Whining

That's so unfair! Let's whine together and feel miserable!

Didn't chess originate in Persia or India or China a few centuries ago ? Not a lot of white folk there then.

No, it's not racist - Chess pieces aren't a race, black or white, they are inanimate objects. The coin flipping recommendation could be used to ascertain which player plays black and which plays white.

RoobieRoo

white moves first but black gets to decided what the opening will be.

Black is beautiful , especially in chess , the march to equality then ascendency is the true test of the chess player with the black pieces ,

so many great chess games have been in our history where black acheived this , a kasparov playing sicilian anyone ,,,? yeah there is so much beauty in the black pieces if they are used to their full potential

Indians did not even have a clue what racism is while inventing chess.

Chess is also transphobic because the King and Queen can't change genders, regardless of how tactically appropriate it would be. The Bishops are slightly more progressive as they are genderless, unfortunately they clearly belong to a church that enforces heterosexuality as part of its doctrine as  they can't defend the same squares together. Then there's the deeply anti-feminist nature of the King who's mostly too lazy to move more than one square at a time, whilst the Queen is working herself into an early grave trying to defend him. And don't get me started on the downtrodden working class pieces holding everything together whilst the bourgeois knights prance around the board over the pawns' plebeian heads.

It really is time to drag-race chess into the 21st century.

The puzzles seem racist: always "White to move and win"

MickinMD

Repetition in chess. There must be hundreds of threads on this topic.

Note that identifying White and Black chess pieces with White and Black people signifies seeing the world in racist terms.  There is no connection.  The shade of White and Black in chess is virtually never anywhere close to the shade of skins colors in the real world!

Yes, because the goal of black people should be to destroy the white race and make them surrender

RACE WAR NOW EVERYONE

EscherehcsE

Chess doesn't favor a race of people; It favors a color. So I guess chess is colorist.

Whining

Chess is a sport.

Isn't it sexiest that the queen can move along any direction while the poor male king can move only one square at a time?

DarkKnight1980

Chess isn't racist, sexist or anything else that might offend. Stop looking for an issue/problem thats just not there. It's just a game.

HorribleTomato

Yeah. Still angry about that.null

randomuser101

On the other hand, the queen is the most powerful piece, so the gender politics are quite progressive wink.png

captaintugwash

Not really. The queen might be the most powerful, but which is the most important?

HorribleTomato

The pawns.

ESP-918

Did you know before it was black first to move ! Now it's reversed, so what's the big deal?
