Is anyone really surprised at Randy Bauer's behavior on social media, or the USCF's complete inability to address the issues behind it? The USCF is only in existence because of their lock on the OTB ratings system, which we amateurs have fetishized and are willing to pay ever-increasing dues for. Actually doing anything proactive or acting like an engaged, effective organization has never been in their wheelhouse.
It used to be the FIDE was the prime source for juvenile personalities bloviating across the Internet. We all remember how fun Kirsan Ilyumzhinov was. The USCF was traditionally just a group of dullards, bumbling their way through decades of feckless but fairly inoffensive administration. No longer. Now we have Randy Bauer, acting like a 12-year old on social media. Incompetence is now embarrassment.
Be like Ben Finegold. Walk away from the USCF. Forget the stupid OTB rating.
I haven't read through all the Bylaws but there may not be a mechanism to remove him without something like a recall (https://new.uschess.org/sites/default/files/media/documents/2020_uschess_bylaws_final_10-5-2020.pdf):
- Recall of an elected Executive Board member may be initiated by petitions signed by 10% of
the registered voters based on the number of registered voters at the end of the most
recent fiscal year, i.e., May 31. The US Chess Secretary shall have one week from the date
the petition is received by the US Chess Office to determine if a recall petition is valid. A
recall may not be initiated on a Board member during the last six months of that member’s
term of office. Once a recall motion has been passed or a recall petition certified as valid, a
recalled Executive Board member shall be given 15 days to decide whether to resign or to be
the subject of a recall election. If the recalled Executive Board member resigns, the recall
motion or petition becomes moot upon the resignation of the Board member.
