"I hit 1600 on 15+10" ++ OK
"play 10+0 games" ++ 10|0 is borderline blitz.
"I was shocked to see that I had lost a few games to 1200"
++ In 15|10 thanks to the increment you have 10 seconds/move to win a won position or draw a drawn position. In 10|0 you have time scrambles and flagging.
10|0 gives no time to come up with same quality moves as 15|10.
"However, a rating disparity of such a great margin is surprising."
++ It is the same when 10|0 players play 15|10: their flagging and premove skills are worthless and their shallow traps do not work.
Recently, I hit 1600 on 15+10 but I wanted to make a new account, dedicated for my journey to 2000. I started to play 10+0 games to reach 1600 faster. I was shocked to see that I had lost a few games to 1200's, something that would have almost never have happened in 15+10 and I seem to have an elo of 1200-1300. What am I missing? Am I just bad at. slow chess or is it like this for everyone?
From researching, I was able to understand the differences between both time controls (swindling, benefits of increment etc.). However, a rating disparity of such a great margin is surprising.
What are your thoughts on this and how much is your rating disparity (if you know)?
