Ratings mechanism is rigged

Earlier I didn't pay much attention to this, but it now it seems more and more clear. Chess.com has a seductive way of milking money from lower rated players with the hopes that they will improve their ratings with puzzles and more games. In reality, what happens with their algorithm it seems is similar to a casino. Make a player to win a few with players of lower ratings then make the same player win a few with players with higher ratings but who are on a losing streak or nearing a losing streak. This hooks up the player to play even further and then trick them into playing similar rated players or higher rated players on winning streak.

In the last two years I have been here, I have consistently seen this happening like an ever repeating cycle ( +160 , -160 ) crest and trough. I have seen this matter somewhere in the forums before as well but never believed it. I paid for subscription and learned puzzles to improve my game. I again gained roughly 160 points and then falling back to same to rating level as before. I carefully looked into some of the players whom I played as part of the losing matches and saw them to be on a winning streak. And such players get consistently added as opponent when I am losing more and more. As if the algorithm somehow knows the best way to add a few more loses to an already losing player and then reset it again for a few more games and repeat the same loop.

Who else thinks, this needs to be explored and investigated further?

It's not rigged, players just tend to play in streaks and a lot of players will continue playing when in bad form trying to get their rating back up to "where it should be."

The site isn't going to make the matching algorithm look for additional things like strings of losses/wins to try and elicit some Pavlovian response.

Are you sure? They would be one of the only such sites not to, if you are correct.

Lol, on the L-chess site I've gone in hundreds of points up and down in puzzles, and I have a free account there. It's just the normal human gambling addiction.

if you are stuck in a rating range, it simply means you need to upgrade your knowledge about the game. solving puzzles is good way to improve, but it's not the only way. if you have a premium account, use what you learnt in the lessons, watch some videos on youtube. I recently started watching Improving Chess with Comedians series by Sagar Shah. and it has actually improved my game a lot.

stop worrying about your rating and improve your game.
