Ratings versus type of chess played

Am curious. I have a 700+ rating (I know, not great, but I am learning). I have only played 30 minute chess but most of my games finish with more than 20 minutes left. Am wanting to drop down to try 10 or 3 minute chess, but if I get in a slump, don't want my hard earned 700 rating to take a beating. Would my rating start all over if I play 3 minute chess?

No.

Glad to help...wink.png  The kids love blitz and bullet, but most experts recommend playing mostly rapid (and analyzing your games) for fastest improvement.

Why not play some unrated games first to get your feet wet. Go to new game, create challenge, put in 10 minute, make sure the rated button isn’t green and go. A word of warning, though, you have to do this every cussing time. If you just hit new game after, it defaults to rated.

Thank you Nikki. Will give that a try.
