Hi all.

I don't understand bullet, blitz and standard ratings. Why and how are they tabulated?

And where did I get points from on my profile?

Short answer: you get points for contributing to the site.

Long answer: From blogging, writing articles, posting, writing notes, etc.

As for ratings:

Live chess is broken up into 3 different rating groups based on time controls:

Bullet games are <3 minutes.

Blitz games are 3-14 minutes.

Long games are 15 minutes and longer.

Your rating is independant in each pool. NOTE: in the live interface it shows the blitz rating when you click on a member's name.

Ratings are calculated at the end of each game where a minimum number of moves have been made (I believe it's at least 1 move by each player, possibly 2).

The system we use is glicko, reference here: http://www.chess.com/article/view/chess-ratings---how-they-work
