Recommended Chess Software

This is my first post.  I am 70 years old and so far I have been playing chess on my laptop - the Chess Titans that comes with Windows 7 against the computer. I record the moves by hand because my software does not do it. Example:

1. e4 e5
2. Nf3 Nc6
3. Bb5 ...... etc.
I wonder if anyone can recommend a chess software that does this automatically, say, alongside of the chessboard so you can actually see it while you are playing? It does not have to be a free software as long as the price is within sane limits.

Thanks in advance for all help, opinions, advise, gossip.

Thank You Marius for your help and recommendations. I downloaded and installed Arena Chess and was glad to see that it does record the moves. However, it also shows all kinds of other moves (in a different colour) and also what appears to be the number of second each move takes. If I could get the program to show only the moves, I would be very happy with this software. Do you have any suggestions how I can turn off those two ?settings?  I have been through the entire toolbar and can't figure out a way. Thanks in advance.
