The women's titles were instituted to attract women to the game of chess. Thirty years ago, few women played chess. The chess club that I belonged to was all male, and in four years of tournament play, only two women entered (one tournament each). As interest in chess was declining at the time, women constituted a large pool of potential players.
The women's titles will eventually disappear. They're somewhat insulting - we've lowered the standard for you because you're not as good as us. Having worked with women (I'm a retired chemical engineer), I can tell you that there are a lot of women who are much smarter than the majority of men.
The titles are a joke anyway. Basically it is saying that women are inferior to men in the intellect department, and wouldn't be able to obtain a regular GM, IM, or FM title, so let's make it easier for them. (The criteria to obtain these female titles is less than the regular GM, IM or FM titles.)
I'm one who believes that women are NOT inferior to men. Yes, they are not as strong, and yes, they can't run as fast, etc., which is why men and women don't compete together in sports. But chess is a game of the mind.
I do not believe they should have a lesser criteria to obtain the same title. I think it's an insult to their intelligence. Kudos to Judith Polgar for refusing to play in women's only tournaments.
Nope, I'm afraid you're wrong. In general, women are intellectually inferior to men (at high levels of intelligence). Of course there are exceptions; that's why I say "In general". But at high levels of intelligence, men are almost always going to be more intelligent.
Pretty interesting insite coming from someone on the lower end of the intelligence scale.
Apart from ironically spelling "insight" completely wrong, your claim is pretty unintelligent. You're not exactly arguing a point there.
I'd rather misspill evry wurd than maintain such an idiotic opinion.
