Respect Your Opponent Regardless of his Rating

ive been beat enough times by guys 200 points lesser than me, so i know at my level it behooves me to stay humble,  now i treat everyone with respect, i fear everyone because i can be beat,  I hate to lose but even so i win more when i keep a healthy respect and FEAR of my opponent.  im not the best player but i am an extremely polite player, ask me for a rematch and i gotchooo.   Im here to be a social player, make friends and enjoy the company.  Life is a B but we dont have to behave like B's.  To win is human, but to lose gracefully is divine. You must learn to seallow the bitetr pill of defeat with a smiling face.

ForeverHoldYourPiece

The higher you're rated, the less likely your opponent that is sub 200 points lower than you will win.

A loser feels good when he wins and bad when he loses. A winner feels good when he wins and good when he loses.

tliu1222

A winner feels good when he wins and okay when he loses.

lifeisaB, you have a great attitude.  And your wise words apply not just to chess, but to all interactions with human beings.  Start from a position of respect (and therefore avoid regrets) -- you can always escalate from there if your interaction turns into a true conflict.

No problemo.  Im here to be a social player, make friends and enjoy the company.  Life is a B but we dont have to behave like B's.  to win is human but to lose gracefully is divine!

Thumbs Up. I like your behavior. G'luck !

"to win is human but to lose gracefully is divine!"

I like that.  Shakespeare might even approve. :)

Respect Your Opponent Regardless of his Behavior

Luvrug

At last, someone on here with a little grace! Good on you!

HolyFlame777

heinzie the behavior thing is a different matter,  i meant to start out with respect but if their behavior doesnt merit it i dont want you to cast pearls before swines,  treat swine like swine i say

A loser is like a silver medalist.

They still make it to the podium.

has anybody else noticeed that they are not playing the national anthems at the medal ceremonies at the olympics/  ive been watching irregularly for two weeks and ive yet to see a single national anthem in the NYC televised medal ceremonies,   My amigo thinks its the New Worl Order.   They are acclimatizing us to a worl free of national anthems , a new one world order. i told him to puff and pass.

Why limit it to Behavior?  Everybody gets equal opportunity beat down. Been on the getting beat down end for a long time when i first started playing chess. No time to really car about behavior ..... at the end somebody is not going to win in the game and no way around it.

Dale

I haven`t been watching the games but I do recall

the anthems being played in the commodore 64 Olympic games.

Typical conspiracy theorist thinking.  Anything new or different is a sign that the conspiracy theory is true.

HolyFlame777

yes amigo it is new and i fear it is ominous, but the fact remains they are not televisng the anthems in the NYC productions, i can testify to that ,,make of it whaT U WILL

Sadly there are so many morons on this site (reflective of real life sadly too) that I always block chat for live games which is a shame because on occasion I used to have some interesting chats with non-idiots, but I have no time for the childish ones who post nonsense there.

Equally why are there so many "13 year olds" - i.e. mental age, whatever their actual age who feel the need to post on people's notes pages about them running away with no rematch and all that rubbish?  Some people just don't rematch, end of story.

I regular post a 'gg' on an opponent's notes page when I lose a blitz game (though never when I win as that feels like bad form!) even if I totally screwed up and am tee'd off at myself for losing an easy win like my last blitz game I threw away in 16 moves after getting too greedy for pawns.  It does no harm to be polite after a game, win or lose.  It doesn't mean you have any less of a "want to win" attitude while actually playing.

It's just like getting off a bus - I always say "thanks" to the driver - I don't need to, I paid for a service, but it's polite and costs nothing and might on the odd occasion make a bored driver at least feel his work is appreciated.

That is the attitude everyone likes!  Congrats...
If you would like, it would be great to play an online game with you.

I don't want to impose conditions or anything, but it would be even better if we don't use a opening database...
