I love the queens gambit opening
veryrabbit

both are good openings.

ruy lopez is more preferred by masters i think. can be played open and closed.. it has things for both strategic and tactical players.

that being said; queen gambit can also lead to open games when accepted and closed ones when declined..

for me, ruy lopez is more complex to understand, it has deeper strategies than queen's gambit.

I think that this depends on your play style, for people who like to play a much slower game I think would prefer the queens gambit, but if someone likes to play a lot faster, then I would recommend the ruy lopez.

Queens Gambit by far, i dont see the point if using Ruy Lopez.

You surely are blind if you don't see the point of using the Ruy Lopez lol. But seriously, both are good, and the Ruy Lopez is a very reliable and uncrackable opening, which provides a variety of positions that pleases almost all play styles. The Queen's Gambit is great, but the Spanish is better to me

when i played the ruy lopez i feel as though every thing is more restricted and harder to play. however, i prefer gambits like queens gambit because then i find that i have more options to play

Queens gambit because D4 is better than E4. Fight me!(I'm joking I'm way to tired for a fight)

If you are a very skilled player who knows a lot of theory I'd say Ruy Lopez, but I think Queens Gambit is much easier to play

JackRoach

I prefer Italian game.

@JackRoach same

Queens Gambit since Ruy Lopez has been analyzed to a draw.

I am fond of the Ruy Lopez because that was the opening I played back in college. I shot up to 1600 OTB very quickly and was able to draw against 2000 players. I prefer sharp tactical play.

Nothing wrong with the QG but I just don't like the heavy book theory that black can reply with.

Nowadays I play c4 because it's very versatile and it's easier to steer the game your way.

DasBurner

Ruy Lopez, I actually find it simpler to play than the queens gambit for some reason

AunTheKnight

QG for sure
