saddest famous chess games?

Hi, I am wondering whether anyone can list some chess games that have been in one way or another played in sad circumstances, context, or have resulted in some tragedy.

I can think of two. One is the immortal game between Anderssen and Kieseritzsky because after the game Kieseritzsky was depressed because, while he was still a good player, he was known as the guy who lost the immortal game.

Another I can think of is the one or more games that were played by Napoleon after his exile to St.Helena and his game with Bertrand. Sad because that's the place where Napoleon died after having failed everything.

If anyone can think of some "sad" games like this, please tell me.

Didn't Kasparov play his world championship match with Kramnik during or right after a divorce? I may not be remembering that correctly.

He's been married more than once.

I think it's the norm (not the exception) for top pros to be married. Easier to focus on chess with someone to take care of you tongue.png

Fischer's game against Tal in which he completely crushed Tal's Sicilian and did not finish him off because Tal laughed at the move on the scoresheet is sad for me.

Bronstein's game in his dear queen sac line against Spaslly 1956 is also quite sad.

All the countless games where won games were resigned by the potential winner.  Happens more often than people would think... several grandmaster games have gone in that direction! happy.png

the immortal losing game between Bogdan Sliwa and David Bronstein was a bit sad for me. Bronstein came up with these brilliant.traps to attack the opponent king, but alas Sliwa deftly sidesteps all the complications and won the game. I was really rooting for Bronstein when I watch video annotation of the game.
