Saying 'gg' after a game

I usually don't say gg. That is kinda like saying "hey nice corvette!". Just seem like an unnecessary thing to say. All games are good no?

It started 18 months ago. It's not another GG thread.

Yes, I guess you're right.  Other GG threads didn't start 18 months ago.

In many modern cyber games , the person who say "GG" first loses.

Actually in my point of view, if you win and say "GG" first, it is rude as you say  "Hey, you played your best but failed to me" .

But if you lose , you say it a good game  , it shows your spirit of sport, and then the opponent may response a "GG" just to agree with you without any offense.

Or the person who loses says "GG" first...

I am sorry but It is a rule in many games especially RTS games as following:

if you say "gg" first after some play (not at the beginning of the game), it means you politely surrender .

So though it is no a rule of chess (maybe we give a handshake or sth?). IMO "GG" is a polite words of losers to admit his failure and an offensive words of winners who want to LOL .

AndyClifton

So although it isn't a rule of chess...you're going to act like it is anyway? Smile

TheGrobe

Well why not? At least "GG is resignation" is a fresh idea.

AndyClifton

Yeah.  Somehow that was almost worth waiting 18 months for.

in my humble opinion it is ridiculous to take offense on grounds of anything relating to "modern cyber games" (under normal circumstances) as they are as a rule fairly meaningless. anyone who takes "modern cyber games" that seriously has some issues. people who gloat on the basis of "modern cyber games", making all sorts of ridiculous claims on their basis and what not, are just idiots and need to get some perspective on what has meaning and what doesn't.

Yes maybe the existense of some online games and their rules sound "ridiculous"  to you.

But when you sit in front of a board to play a real chess, where do you type those two "G" characters?

"GG" is definitely an internet english slang and it belongs to online world and it is contained in game rules for long even in non-English China.

As I say, when we play real chess, we usually give a handshake , drop one's own king etc. to show "surrender to your good play" and admit one's failure and it is quite common online to type "gg" as polite surrender as that.

But if you win and you claim to your opponent "you play a good game", it is not polite in not only my but also many rulers' opinions  and because of this , many " ridiculous  " games' rules fobid the winner to claim it before the opponents and those games use these  ridiculous  rules kidding millions of players who are fool.

Even when you play basketball one-on-one, tennis, or even Wrist, you are not polite to say your opponent is good with the result  you win. Isn't it a way to show you own off and LOL at your opponent?

Maybe those thingies only exist in the east of the world.

Honestly I hate when people tell me gg, especially after I lose.
