Hi!

I have been wondering what does "being someones second" mean? For example "Peter Leko is Anands second".

Thanks for answering!Smile

During the preparation of important events such as a WCC, FIDE World Cup and so on, players form a team of several other strong players to help them. As the WCC match is obviously the most important event of the chess world, even many super-GMs "second" for either Anand or Carlsen.

Usually players won't tell which players are in their team, as it's information that could be used by their opponent to "counter" the pre-match preparation; even Anand, who decided to make it public, did so only two days before the match, when both players likely had already completed their preparation.
