Seeking Rapid and Long Game Opponents that Don't Cheat!

Hello friends, I am shocked by how many rapid games are ruined by cheaters. I want to join a group where people are serious about playing rapid and or long games without engines. I've reported cheating three times since I've been back here at chess.com playing rapid - in the last two days!  My opponents have a bullet of 800, a blitz of 1040 and a rapid rating of 1800 - and when I check the games afterwards, they play the stockfish moves throughout the game. I'm sick of it.

Is there a  group already established for people that actually don't cheat? I'm rated around 1800 and want to play serious games.

Slow chess league. I think they're in the first page on clubs.

I’m glad I’m not that highly rated yet, peeps still don’t cheat at my level

Play unrated games perhaps? My main worry is someone won't move, not that they would use an engine. If someone cares about my rating, they know to play me and find out. Hey, we're you the 1200 player who whooped me recently. When computers knock down your rating, it means I get a surprise too when I play you.

That's pretty pathetic. Why would anyone care that  much about number on a chess site? Why would anyone like to take credit for a win a machine made? Pity the cheaters because they are smal, patheticl people ...

Honestly, I am quite often suspicious of my opponents play on chesscom, but still, there just isn't a good way of knowing if someone is cheating or not, so I'm curious as to how you came to your conclusion?

The rating difference between time controls isn't really a reliable way of knowing if someone is cheating. It's possible that either they don't play the other time controls much or simply are bad under time pressure. I myself was about 1000 bullet or something when my rapid rating was 1600.

And as for the stockfish moves, unless it's every move including weird illogical moves that defy all tactical and strategical value in the position, this isn't really significant either. Both my opponents and me can play top moves by an engine in certain positions, this has more to do with the simplicity of the position at our level than it has to do with cheating.

Not saying people don't cheat at almost every rating level, but I doubt it's really that common

i also believe there are more honest players. what is the thrill and satisfaction of cheating?

The amount of cheating on chess.com is limited under 2000 as a rating and even above that it is rare and a lot if cheaters are caught. The impact of playing or not playing cheaters is limited. If we note x the rating difference does on average then if you play a bunch of not cheaters who are underrated by x then your rating will go down by x after enough games. Also most cheats will cheat for a reason for instance to win a league or a tournament.

On another note I would be interested to play you in a few weeks I don't cheat.

I can attest to that. Just check my profile. I am terrible under pressure, no matter how much I try. I have read and know a lot about chess, but can't apply anything under time pressure.

Problem is, cheaters that don't get caught won't cheat all the time and with every move. I don't think there's necessarily more or less cheaters at any rating range. By your logic, all cheaters would be rated at ~3000 (probably higher bc engine rating pool is only engines) which is obviously not the case. Point is, most cheaters cheat periodically and will try to make sure it doesn't become apparent by making some dummy games/throwing in some of their own moves.

I think cheating is applied differently than most people assume. I think people use engines when they blunder a game for example because they feel like they deserve a win, or they cheat because they think they deserve to be higher rated. Most commonly though I think is just players that don't take chess seriously at all and just want to troll people online. Of course there are cheaters that actually try to get to 2400 elo level or something similar, but unless their actual rating is around 100-200 elo points in that range, they are easily caught.

If their cheating, why does it effect you? If you want real games try unrated, like no one cheats there.

If you are concerned about your rating, then don't be. It's only there for your judgment and others cheating probably don't effect if by anything significant. (100 points.£

Come on Nino, I've been playing chess for 30 years. You can tell when you are playing a computer because your opponent takes 8 minutes for the whole game, played stockfish's top choice the whole way through, and have gained 600 rating points in the last 30 days, when before they were losing to 1500 players - and their blitz and bullet (too fast to cheat) is like 1000 or 1100. Be fore real, Nino.

"If you are concerned about your rating, then don't be. " Oh yeah, right. Thanks for the sage advice, Socrates. I want to be concerned with my rating, if that's okay with you. I like the added element of competition is provides and it's a score as to how well I'm playing. I like it.

Thanks to everyone else.

Doesn't the "Dan Heisman Learning Center" club run the Slow Chess League?

If you are going to complain or otherwise discuss cheating, please do it in the special designated Cheating Forum Club - https://www.chess.com/club/cheating-forum  - and not in the forums.
