I bet lots of bored kids taught themselves chess. I used the World Book Encyclopedia when I was in 5th or 6th grade and then a couple of books from the library. And yes I do realize I just showed how really old I am.
Wikipedia made me the player I am today

@Ultimatesaiyan when I was a kid (6-7 y.o.) I found a book called "Learn chess with Karpov" (it had some Disney pictures and showed the basic concepts, even tho' I didn't get some of them, and I did not understand why "the immortal" was so beatiful). Then I learnt mostly through experience since I joined this website.

Has anyone taught them self how to play Chess? I taught myself off Spongebob Chess when I was Eight,lol!
