Should I feel bad for absolutely dunking on a child at chess?

He's just learning. He needs to see chess played correctly. I had a similar experience a few years ago. When the boy was crying to his mother she told him "When you lose, you learn". We examined the game and I pointed out how he could have done better at a few points. You do young students of the game no favors by going easy on them, if they wish to improve they need to learn to recognize their errors.

*Snip cool story* I tried shaking his hand and saying good game but he already left by the time I could do that. AITA?

This is your first topic 10 hours after joining. So a little unclear on the AYTA part.

As in is he the person in the story or is he actually an ahole?

No. He went to play, and lost. Sucks to suck. He needs to learn that crying when you lose is not okay. You taught him a lesson. You should feel good for teaching this kid.

that is the stupidest BS reasons i've heard, its ok to cry cause it just shows how much you were trying for so long in a single game. its not ok to berate people who choose to be angry at themselves screaming loudly, venting, crying, or feeling worthless cause it shows their love for the game. they want to get strong and have obstacles which after the experience will only motivate them to be as strong of a player they are competing against, this is how masters find success

You can cry, but he needs to learn the crying should not be the default reaction to things

you shouldn't default how people should react, all people react differently to losing and you must respect it as you aren't the one losing or playing in their situation, its better to comfort them

When I was 6 or 7 I would cry if my baseball team lost.

When you get older you grow up and quit crying.
