Should I play with a Mouse? Or, is my iPad good enough?

Question - what’s the best way to play online chess?  iPad or mouse?

sndeww

Using anything other than trackpad is good. I use trackpad. Mouse would be best, but my experiences with iPad on bullet are less than satisfactory... it lags horribly when I spam premoves (although it still registers all the moves)

sndeww

you'd probably lose respect when seeing my last bullet game...

Almost all top speed chess players use a mouse. It’s way faster. I remember during the IM not a GM event a couple months ago when Carissa Yip used a touch screen everyone was super surprised.

sndeww

how did they know he was using touch screen?

Mako_Cat

they were streaming. And she said she was using touch screen

sndeww

ok.

Using a mouse on chess.com has the unique advantage of allowing you to make multiple premoves, which can be game-deciding when you're either trying to flag your low time opponent or mate your opponent when you have low time yourself. If you're sufficiently fast with a mouse, it will give an advantage that you'll never get with a touch screen

Honestly it is your choice, playing with a mouse can be prefered by another group and others don't mind using there devices.

However like others said before, I don't believe it is good to use mobile devices such as an ipad if you are in time formats such as bullet or even 5 minute blitz. I think your ipad would be most effective on time formats with 10 minute blitz or higher. Anything lower you cannot flag people and you can easily get flagged because of the lack of the same tools.

So yeah, honestly it is your decision...

Ellipsoul - Thank you Sir.  Appreciate the advice.  Again, I’ve never even heard this before.  That makes a big difference and explains why I lose at bullet chess to players that seem to be moving way too quickly to be thinking much about each move.

You're welcome happy.png I find the multiple premove feature to be one of the best parts of chess.com. It's also unique; chess24 and lichess don't support this in any way, which is why I like playing here

sndeww

you can make multiple premoves on mobile, if you use the website.
