Should there be an OM title?

With technology improving and a large cohort of online players, along with chess.com verified program to verify a players identity, is there scope for different digital age titles alongside the OTB ones. For instance OM, ONM, OIM, OCM, OGM etc? I see a lot of players at the top end with no official titles who are being matched to WGM, GM etc based on their site score and yet despite being able to compete, they don't receive the prestige, accolades, ability to enter online matchups like titled Tuesday etc, that they perhaps deserve.

I can't see that happening. Though, if a player is really strong enough they should be able to get an OTB title.

A lot of those events require you to have the ability to travel etc. So you instantly wipe out a lot of people who might have the skill but for one reason or another can't attend. Work, family, finances etc

It is hard to ensure integrity of an online game.
There are some means: mandatory screen sharing, mandatory cameras, presence of a proctor...

FIDE already has something like that, arena titles, like AGM, etc...

I know a guy on the chess.com discord who is an actual AFM. His online rating is lower than mine. So take that how you will I guess.

Yeah, I think chess.com should give non real value titles in chess.com available only on chess.com so people feels happy about their achievements when reaching the equivalent rating of a FIDE title. I would make it a premium feature only. Like many people say over here, if that is your rating, you should get a real FIDE title, but like some people say, some people doesn't have the time nor the money to travel to compete in real tournaments.

What do you mean by "title"?

The only real risk, would be the increased amount of people who cheat. This would be the pinnacle of cheating and the singular reward/goal for them to try and achieve. While chess.com has exceptional development in the cheating space, it’s the saying that the best cheaters don’t get caught

It's already there. Official online titles by fide. Arena FM, Arena GM etc. But, chess.com doesn't accept those titles here.

Never heard of an O.M titles whats it stand for Older Master,,, Only Mates,,, or maybe ... Over Matched

I think it means Online Master. They are the same names as FIDE official titles, but removing FIDE with Online before the title name.

Chess_Player_lol

i think having one OM title is a good idea, however to keep the integrity of the game the title should not exist.

You could argue there's a disconnect between the way players qualify for Titled Tuesday and what TT actually is... you qualify by playing classical games, and the competition is speed chess.

But it's not as simple as letting people qualify via online games since (as others pointed out) there'd be a lot of cheating.

... and while norm based titles may be hard to get (require traveling like you said) lower titles aren't restrictive. With 2200 FIDE you're instantly CM.

Jenium

Yes, FIDE alrady has online titles. I think you must break 1000 or so to become a master... tongue

That encourages cheaters, so while you may get an online title there will be much more cheaters.
