Should you not play when your not 100%?

There’s no option to play lower rated players so If you’re tired or not totally focused or not 100% you’re probably gonna lose. In halo there’s a ranked category for when u feeling like playing hard and there’s unranked when ur playing casually and it’s just totally random opponents. Most people aren’t very good so you usually win if you’ve been playing a while. In chess every game is a dog fight and you better bring your a game or your probably gonna lose. I’m not always up for that

U must play when u r feeling extremely tired and sleepy and eyelids are getting heavy, play until u fall asleep, after waking up have a look at the games u played in such a state, the quality of games and results will provide the answer to your question, if u played very poorly then u should not play when not 100% however if the results and games are consistent with your normal results then u can play even when not 100% , how ever I must warn u never play chess when u have fever or are having hallucinations , subjecting your brain to the extra stress of playing chess can damage it, also don't play if u have high blood pressure or u r very angry and agitated , playing in such a state can cause a blood vessel to burst and result in stroke , regards

If your goal is to chase rating points, then no, don't play when your not fully well.

If you goal is to learn how to play chess, and/or to have fun, and engage in an activity that doesn't put you in a vegetative state, then just play whenever you want to.

I’m not always trying to chase rating points sometimes I wanna play but just not think 100%. Sometimes you don’t wanna do sprints but you can walk on the treadmill. I do t even care if I lose a bunch in a row to lower my rating but that’s sandbagging and isn’t allowed lol. There are literally millions of people lower rated and I can’t play em. Some of them gotta wanna play with a stronger opponent

Why not have the upper limit go down to -400 or something instead of +25 and then if not a single person in the world wants to play me so be it. I mean people put on +400 all the time because they don’t care if they play someone 400 higher.

You'll lose more when not playing at 100% but it should still help you in the long term to play more. People get very protective of their rating which makes sense OTB when it can takes months to win back rating points, but not online when all it takes is one session (unless you omega tilted).

Probably refrain from playing at less than 100% if you're trying to make a rating milestone and are close to it.

It seems odd to me that on a chess website the general idea is that if you’re not 100 percent don’t even bother playing chess at all because you’re not giving it your all lol

Well it's not sandbagging if, at the board, you're trying in good faith to find the best moves.

There's a big variation in players' ability on a day-to-day basis.  For me, I discovered that I play much better if I have no caffeine in my system, like at least 150 points difference.  There's all kinds of ways where you can just be off, and not completely know it.  It might even be something as simple as anxiety.  An awful lot of players have a story where they just showed up at a tournament, no prep, didn't care if they won or lost, and had their best performance in years.

Part of the process is learning what it is that impairs your ability, and what helps maximize it.  You find that out, in part, by playing when your not at your best.

Don't worry about what other people think.  If someone says you're cheating, you're sandbagging, just ignore it.  You know you didn't do anything wrong.
