Shouldn't this be checkmate?

if your in check.. you can castle to get out of it right??
NO you cannot , also you can only castle if NONE of the squares that you have to complete your castleing maneover are under attack, kingside or queenside !

Only the squares that the king moves through though. In other words, you can still castle queenside if b1 or b8 is attacked.

Be6 blocks the check.
white takes and its game over
Well, yeah, but that wasn't the question. The question was why the given position wasn't already checkmate, to which the answer is that a piece can block the check.
