Shredder chess online (hard mode)

I totally agree. It moves too quickly to be taken as a serious computer contender. I have done some testing with it and it has blundered in the opening (to my knowledge). If a human doesn't take too much time, though, it does have an edge over most human players. In my case, I spent a good deal of time analyzing before making my moves. I think that a 1700 player using their in-depth analysis skills can overcome this machine.

I love it to play

I just beat hard mode today. It's a bit odd actually, he left his king completely unprotected so I could move my rook to e8 and check mate him. He tried using sicillian so I just went with Alapin. I wouldn't put him too far over 2000 if it is even that level.

i am about 1400 standard. haven't played that many games; i mostly like to watch and played other variations of chess [in the past]) anyway, online shredder free, really plays like a computer; u can tell a big difference between playing humans and playing computer. i like playing computer because i do not like to be committed to time, and can quit anytime i want to. lol. well i was beating the easy mode all the time. as someone has said, it is really easy. i was beating medium mode more regularly. and today i beat hard mode. (by attacking & some sacrifices on the opponent's "king area.") so maybe hard mode is around 1600-1700? in the beginning, it was hard for me to beat medium lol, and i thought it was impossible to beat hard. playing w/ real life people online, i could prob beat 1600-1800 lucky, but could not beat a 1800+, and 1900/2000+ for me is pretty impossible now. lol. i do not know the intricacies of deep chess playing level. lol. A long time ago i played a human 2500 LOL. haha. insane playing, u can tell he play WAY differently than regular chess folks.

back to online free shredder, i notice on hard mode, it likes to start off w/ a "pawn storm" often times against your men. also bc it couldn't do anything w/ me, it started doing funny things w/ his queen so i just took his free queen. (like the guy right before me said: "he left his king completely unprotected.") computer does funny things on hard mode or in general sometimes- that's my point.

     happy chess playing.

Hey Pancakemix;  You've been here for 2 months and you haven't played one game yet.

hi RonaldJosephCote,

for the past month, i've been playing online free shredder chess against the computer. in the beginning i couldn't beat easy. lol. so i did a net search to find out the elo for free online shredder chess so that's how i got to this forum. i haven't played chess in years. years ago, i used to play on a free chess server playing bug house chess w/ a rating of 800-1000. (bughouse is "pairs of people" playing chess against each other.) that was my fun. he was my partner occasionally and i often got cussed out lol. he was about 2500 in bug, 1800 standard. i played some standard games on there, not much, rating about 1400. i was just coming here to find out the elo like i said. i did not realize i was a member from a long time ago, lol. i met a friend on the chess server and now we hang out occasionally. lol. neither of us play much anymore. he logged in a lifetime of chess playing on that server and finally quit. i didn't log in as much as him, but enjoyed "game watching." i have kind of "retired" too. lol.

     happy chess playing.

I have never won from hard mode yet, only 1 draw by forced repetiton. (a good game actually, however Shredder does not allow you to save any games you've played)
I win from medium now.. well, most of the time...

Elo's: 1200 - 1600 - 2200 http://www.schakentegencomputer.nl/ to play! :)

i have won hard mode several times now. i know the trick. this is all you have to do, as i have said earlier; if you want to try- you just have to sacrifice (maybe a bishop) on his kingside, and destroy his kingside. then you swoop your other pieces over to that kingside, like maybe a queen, rook, or knight. as a computer, shredder likes to (as i've said earlier) pawnstorm, CONSTANTLY check you into "3-fold" repetition w/ his queen. try not to give him that chance, it is NAUSEATING. so just prepare for this. another thing hard shredder likes to do is sacrifice his pieces on your king-side. the only way it seems to "one-up" shredder is to constantly be on the agressive, otherwise, if you give him any chance, he will use it to his advantage and start eating your pieces, sacrificing to his benefit, and putting you on the defensive. then you spend all this time "running from shredder." you might have to sacrifice a piece to "one-up" him. also, I notice shredder will sacrifice his queen if you "force mate in 1-2-3 etc" w/ shredder. hard mode is more challenging than easy and medium. i prob average shredder hardmode online free at about a 1600-1700 standard as i've said earlier. i might be wrong; this is just a guess. i think HUMANS 1700-2500+ are MUCH HARDER than this comp. i HIGHLY DOUBT this hard-mode is rated at 2200 as someone on pg. 1 of this message board has stated. one of my favorite things to do is to queen all my pawns. lol. yeah, that's fun, lol. ok, i might retire soon again.

It's been a few years since the last few posts, and I believe that shredder has gotten a lot stronger. To test the real strength of this engine, I pitted it off against Stockfish Lvl 7 on Lichess, rated around 2200. Shredder completely annihilated the 2200 engine in this nice game. The engine evaluation is the full version of Stockfish, rated around 3200.

It's a fairly tough computer (demo version of shredder 12 on hard mode) and I've only even been able to draw with it, at best. I'd give it a pretty accurate estimation of 2200.

You claim that you have beaten it several times now on hard mode and your advice is to 'sacrifice a piece, 'maybe a bishop' and then to 'swoop' your Queen over and look for 3 fold repetition'? No offence but LMFAO! There's no way in hell you came even close to getting through the opening with it.

StonesOfSauron

Hmm, the medium setting is easy as pie, you can beat it by just choosing solid moves, the hard setting thinks ahead, so if you aren't careful it will get a pawn up in the tango, mostly cuz you were lazy protecting the pieces. Drawing it is rather doable.
I'm trying to figure out how to beat it (scratches head)

Well keep scratching your head as the 'hard' setting is about 2300 in strength.

StonesOfSauron

Yeah that is why I aim to beat it. It doesn't allow you to beat it with any kind of joker moves.
Now, I've been playing for 4 years? (not on chess.com) And I'm good at making excellent/sound and solid moves, but, I'm super weak at certain areas that I believe might get me a win or two against it if I improve. That won't mean I am 2300 elo, because I'd need to do that over half the time with no takebacks (thats intense). So my aim is just to beat it through solid fundamentals and sharpening my weaknesses. HOWEVER, I agree it is a steep goal, but like JFK said, "we choose to go to the moon, not cuz it is easy but because it is hard". I agree, it is nothing to sniff at. It is an impressive engine.

Note that Shredder usually plays poorly in a lost position : I have been frustrated that it will often not play the best defence .However , if you want to test your ability to win a won game , you can switch from medium to hard level during the game.

My guess is that the online Shredder app, even in Hard Mode, does not play at a 2500 ELO / GM-level.  White's Queen-side wing attack was too slow and not supported or technically complicated, the e4 square was surrendered too easily, the center was locked too easily (cramping White), White's pieces were exchanged too easily, and Shredder also failed to capitalize on ripping open Black's king side.  Not grandmaster play.  With numerous efforts, I have accomplished this only a few times.
