sicilian is popular at all levels and is a very common reply to e4
OTOH, Nadjorf is but one sicilian flavor and not at all, the most common choice. as black when I play sicilian I usually play some kind of dragon. I would imagine that the dragon is more popular than the najdorf. (at my level)

thanks i know the Nadjorf isn't the only variation i was just saying what i play.
I don't play safely enough as Black when I play the Sicilian - I think I need to improve my tactics first because the Sicilian is basically a Q-side counterattack instead of a "defense." So I play the Caro-Kann which gives me less of a need to memorize variations since the goals of the defense (QB outside pawn chain, c6-c5 to launch Q-side attack, etc.) are generally achievable jn spite of White's order of moves.

Of course what I find is a lot of players going with the Morra or the Grand Prix rather than:
1. e4 c5 2. Nf3 d6 3. d4 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nf6 5. Nc3 a6

your 1518 rated and you don't know what the sicilian is. it's only the most played reply to 1. e4 among masters.
#5 Yes indeed. the Caro-Kann is my back-up. I have also gone mad with it. Playing ... Bd6 ... Qc7 and O-O-O against a king side castling. A few white players against me held the mind set the Caro is a solid defensive set-up. Consider 1. e4 c6 2. d4 d5 3, Nc3 dxe4 4. Nxe4 Nf6 {rather than Bf5} 5. Nxf6+ gxf6

Can't you find this out, exactly and in full, from the "Explorer"? There's an "others games" option that doesn't work for me, but should for you with your paid up membership.
I play French More than ANY other defense to e4.
but People need to try to be flexible and have more than one answer-- espacially, like me, when they play in a small chess club and the other guys in the club are going to totally get used to your reportoire.

did you ever go back to a OTB chess club? I remember you said your first experience was negative. and what about chess tournaments??

i cant get why they play/ don't play the sicilian in the explorer it just gives numbers.

That's why I started playing it, the numbers, the stats are good for Black in the masters database. But I keep on thinking I should play something else... Not sure why... My rapid rating stuck below 1400 may have something to do with it. What are the stats like for beginners using this opening?
i play the sicilian Nadjorf as black in reply to 1.e4 however i want to see if you like it and play it. if so i want your reasons why you play the sicilian. if you don't play the sicilian i want to know why you don't play it?
