Software for Playing Against the Computer that Gives Hints

What is the best software for playing against the computer that gives hints on where you should move if you ask for them? It could also be an app for the iPad/iPhone.

Also, what is the best for (interactive or not) tutorials (beyond beginner level). Does Chessmaster Grandmaster Edition or anything else go into intermediate? The old Chessmaster 2000 had a great tutorial narrated by Josh Waitzkin, but it was just for beginners.

I have a Mac but can run PC software using a VM.
