Sound not working on safari for mid 2017 iMac. - Chess Forums

I have tried relentlessly to get sound to work on safari
- cleared chess.com cookies
- enabled sound in chess.com settings
- disabled and uninstalled all extensions
-cleared safari cache
-quit safari and reopended
-restarted iMac
-enabled auto play settings for chess.com in safari preferences
but nothing works. Strangely enough sound does work on chess.com when using Firefox. Are there any other Mac and safari users who experience this problem? is there a way to fix it?

What's the Safari version?

the safari version is 15.6

I'm having the same issue, it's been really frustrating. I messaged chess.com support who told me their developers fixed the problem a couple weeks ago and I just needed to clear my cache. I did and it still didn't work. Haven't heard a follow up from them.

Chrome is the primary browser which websites are developed for. I'd recommend having it installed even if it isn't your first choice browser, for situations like this where websites don't behave as you expect.

Glad to here im not the only one and that its a problem with chess.com

not a big fan of chrome or google. I guess I can live without sound until chess.com fixes the problem. Other than this website and a government website, safari has been great. My current secondary web browser for when things don't work on safari is Firefox but I have def been looking into switching too brave. It is annoying how google purposely makes YouTube run bad on every web browser except for chrome but Youtube is still ok with safari. I like safari's privacy features and anti tracking features as well as its integration with Mac OS.

Same here, just install Firefox... it is the most secure and favored browser among linux users, including my self. Good luck.

I already have Firefox installed. I installed brave and just like Firefox, the sound for chess.com is working. Brave seems faster than Firefox and has built in ad block which is nice.

****Update:
so after upgrading to Mac OS 12 Monterey from Mac OS 11 Big Sur, im happy to report that sound effects are now working again on chess.com. If you are having problems with sound on safari with chess.com try upgrading to the latest version of Mac OS. Upgrading to Mac OS Monterey also freed up a bunch of space on my iMac. Thanks for the help everyone and I hope this tip helps other people having problems with chess.com sound effects on safari.
