Speedrun

I have been obsessed with the speedruns lately, mainly seeing the streamers like Hikaru, Danya, Hansen. We, being a mere mortals, sometimes dream to be like them. So, I deleted my previous account (blitz, rapid ~1700 and bullet ~1600)  and opened this one like a month ago and dreamt of climbing to my normal rating.

Frankly speaking its terribly difficult and time consuming to say the least. In my experience it's much easier to start at 1800 and sit around in the range of 1650 to 1800 after let's say 20 to 30 games.

My journey: I started from 400. Upto 1000 it was like a free run. You would start to think yourself the very Hikaru. You would also think of opening a twitch stream and make some speedrun series. From 1000 to 1200 you would start to feel a little hindrance, a little resistance; you would lose some games here and there. Once you get past 1300, you would be put under lot of hindrance, lot of pressure. Now you are losing a lot more. You would start to question your real rating. Are you really 1700? You start meeting one two cheaters here and there, but its not a problem as you are playing 3 min blitz. Once you get past 1400, ohh my God What happened to your speedrun. It's not a speedrun any more. Because there are no spped in it and you are not even running. You are just barely walking. You are winning 15 games, losing almost 10 games. OK that's why nobody is watching your speedrun videos. OK that's why nobody is giving a damn about your speedrun experience. That's why nobody is reading your blabbering. Somehow I crawled past 1500 in blitz and got completely worn out. I did everything within 4 to 5 days.

Now it's time to get my hands dirty in bullet. But surprisingly it was relatively a very easy ride. While to reach 1501 from 400, my record in Blitz is (150/86/12); in Bullet it's (45/13/1).

But keeping everything in mind, it was a very fun ride, though sometimes you would feel why did you take that challenge. So in the end my urge to all of you to have this fun ride and share your experience in this thread.

Alert: It will soak up lot of your energy and time. Hey wait, isn't chess as a whole like that?

Thanks for sharing your experience.

My goal is to hit 1300 and slowly grow.

I hit 1280 in blitz within a couple of months but went on a tilt and lost 400 points within a week afterwards.

Learned a new opening as white and a handful of new defences for black; Improving steadily with less volatility.

My goals nowadays are oriented towards accurate and solid play.

Yes rating fluctuations are quite very common in online chess..have you played any FIDE rated tournaments yet?

Chuck639

No FIDE rating. I dabbled OTB 20 years ago at a club; able to beat 1500 players and challenge 1800 players with no book theory.

To be honest, I went on a weekend bender playing under the influence and loss my points. That was a wake up call.

So I learned C4 such as the Botvinnik system, Reversed Dragon and Catalan as new openings when white to set apart from e4.  Added the c4 reportorial to steer the game in English territory. It’s frustrating when you play e4 or d4 into your opponents pet lines.

Learned a handful of defences against d4 as well such as Kings Indian, Englund and Owens instead of playing the usuals QGD or Accepted.

I figured if I am hitting rock bottom, I’d might as well rebuild myself for the long haul. Learning an opening was very embarrassing and frustrating especially when you are losing but now that I am capturing a win rate, it’s hopeful now.

Speedrunto1801

I also don't have a FIDE.. Dreams about playing some day

krazeechess

lol try doing a rapid speedrun it would be a nightmare

Speedrunto1801

I can try it from this account. But the problem is cheating. There will be lots of cheaters in rapid ig. The more the time control, the more you will get hurt cheated.happy.png

Speedrunto1801

What's your experience btw? How many cheaters you come across generally?

justbefair

The main problem is that you aren't allowed to have a second account.

I am pretty sure that unauthorized speedruns are treated as Fair Play violations.

When streamers do it, rating points are refunded at the end. You aren't in a position to do that...

Speedrunto1801

But sir that's why I deleted my previous account.

Kysage770

my goal is 500-1000 cuz im trash lol

Hello people
Speedrunto1801

Chess.com I am so afraid. I never knew playing and winning in your website does count as fair play violations. What would happen to me now?

Well, even though you've closed your previous account, this is still not allowed by their rules because it is a certain case of sandbagging or an artificial rating manipulation. If you don't know your initial rating, it is one thing, but you've said it yourself that you had a rating of 1 700 in rapid just before closing the account...

So what you've been doing is that you've presented yourself as a 400 rated player which is far from your rating, bashing beginners in rated games, taking their points in the process as if they were playing against some other 400 rated player. If you play them as a 1 700 rated players they wouldn't lose a single point for instance. On top of it all, I see that you have many losses in the beginning. So you probably even lost some games on purpose so you can remain lower rated for a longer time. So you've been manipulating ratings...

Titled players ask for a specific permission and affected accounts get their points back if they lose such games.

If you really want an experience of playing against lower rated people, either play unrated games with them, or play rated games with your real rating on the line. That way those willing would play much higher rated person if they wish. By doing it like this, they are forced to play a higher rated person even though some of them do not want to.

oPAWNo

Why would you want be bash lower rated players? N

oPAWNo

An when you lose, they obviously cheated that's why there rating is 955 lol

Not even about the points it's just the fact hes undermining their competitive matches which is not what people expect  when signing up.  This is an example of why lichess no longer makes exceptions for speedruns.   It encourages rating manipulatuon and its why a player can make a 400 rated account on here in the 1st place.

Well sure, points as such are not the most important for individual players, but it is still not great -  rating can be a motivator to some capacity, whether we like it or not. But on top of that, it is pretty important for the site as well, as it could mess up the rating pool on lower end if this is allowed freely for instance.

And of course, nobody likes being destroyed. It can discourage people from playing. And the more such accounts, more such defeats. If they've set their rating range search in a way to play let's say -200/+200 compared to their rating, they do not get what they've signed up for.

So, ideally I think that OP should probably close this account himself, and then try to reopen the old one, or just start the new one from let's say 1 600.
