I would like to get one of these but Im worry about durability. I see a lot of reviews where they work for about a month then quit. Any opinions about this from you guys and gals?
Square Off - Chess Set

The first one I had stopped working, but the replacement seems fine. The customer support I received was top notch. I had one of the first batches from the crowdfunding campaign, so I expect that they've been making improvements in production quality.

I have had mine 7 months now played 50 games on squareoffs rating system and 35 games all slow times controls on chess .com my grand kingdom works great. I am glad I bought it.

I just got my chessboard today but something is not right and I cant find teh manual. The chessboard makes awful noises and messes up all teh pieces. The app recognizes my movements. Can this be reset or calibrated ?

Did you unscrew the lock at the bottom of the board? This holds everything in place during the shipping process but will back a very loud noise and not function probably if it is not unscrewed. Its a little black nob on the bottom of the board. Make sure it is unscrewed before you start to play

I Love my square off chess set. It's the best way to play online chess. I have no major issue with my board and i have had it since it was first released. I play at least one game on it daily, but i will often play 4-5 45|45 minute games on it. So i highly recommend it... especially if you like OTB chess but can't find enough games.

Whats the minimum recommended time control to use on the board so you don't lose too much time while the pieces move? Will it play 15 | 10 ok?

Giovonie with the app open you will see 3 bars in the upper left corner swipe right on the three bars and you can get a menu on which you can contact support. You might also try to lock and unlock the board with that menue to recalibrate it.

I just got my SquareOff chess set today. I'm having problem getting the pieces to move to the correct position based on the application on my iPhone. How do you hard reset the device? plucas6279 It sounds like your software is ok since you have reloaded it several times. If in the beginning you had old software on your phone when you first tried to play and later downloaded new software after the fact it might be a good try to go through the locking procedure for the board then unlock it. Some people have trouble following the instructions for locking the board which is found in the menu of the software. The three bars in the upper left corner swipe right on the bars till the menu opens. follow the instructions completely then click next as needed the holes will align and you can put the screw back in. Then turn the board off. then remove the screw and turn the board on then log back into the software on your phone. If that doesn't do it you may then need to first try to play the game even though the pieces are not corresponding on the board with the app play several moves. Then go back to the menu, click on the "About" link it will take you to a picture of the chessboard with your finger just click on the chessboard picture that will send the log files to squareoff support. Then go back to the menu and click the contact us button and state you just sent a log file and describe your probaly. The log files will be time stamped as will you sending a chat to them they will review what is going on and give you a fix or tell you how to proceed. Generally speaking there is a learning curve with the board, They will skype you if necessary to watch the issue first hand. Don't get discouraged as a new user I got off to a bumpy start but it was user errors on my part. They will take care of you either way.

Can you setup a position on Square Off and play against AI, as a training tool? and then afterwards retrieve the PGN for later analysis. I guess this is not still the case, but need to know however. This could be a strong feature.
Not currently but they do add new features often. You can copy the PGN and analyze online games via chess.com or the analyze this app.

I just received a replacement unit from Amazon and I'm trying to update the firmware on the chessboard with no luck. I have tried deleting the app on my iOS device and reinstalling and that didn't work. It shouldn't this hard to install software on a device. Both chessboard's had this problem. What is the secret to installing the software? So far, I'm very disappointed with this product. I will give this second unit a couple more days to getting it working or I will send it back. On my first unit the pieces would not move. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Contact support ask the to escalate you problem to management. Three bars in upper left corner swite right click contact us tell them this is the second board with the same issue. I have an Android phone it connects automatically with Bluetooth perhaps an I phone is different. You might also try a different phone. I was having issues when I got my board I had a cell phone that was older. About that same time I got a new phone and had no issues. Is it still moving the pieces wierd?

I agree with Dennis, it is certainly with the phone. I didn’t have any issues yet with installing the software. The procedure is always fast and easy.
Has anyone had an issue with games being aborted with their Square Off board. I'm trying to figure out if it's just because I'm using an iPhone 4s. On my first Black game each day, White's first move doesn't come through until the game is already aborted. I think my account was flagged, because it becomes a lot harder to find games.
I've sent a request to support, but I was sort of dismissed for using an unsupported device. Has anyone had a similar experience?
