I'm more curious what the differences are. Is it harder to trick. Does the book on how to beat Stockfish only apply to Stockfish 8?
Stockfish 9
According to the official forum (FishCooking), SF 9 is 50 elo points higher than SF 8. There you can find more information. Not easy to understand tho

Today I am running some matches between Stockfish 9 and Stockfish 8. Each match consists of 10 games. The blitz 5+0 has just finished with Stockfish 9 wins (+3 -1 =6). Another match that has finished is the one where each engine is given 6 seconds per move. In this one, Stockfish 8 wins (+2 -1 =7). It is quite interesting to see the score.
Imagine how much faster chess engines would get stronger if we used 20% of the world's computing power for chess research and computer matches.

The only negative talk I heard about SF9 was regarding the contempt setting during analysis. In going from SF8 to SF9, they changed the default contempt setting from 0 to 20. This is fine when Stockfish plays games, but it causes problems when analyzing, because it biases the evaluation numbers. I guess the best thing to do is to change the contempt setting back to 0 whenever you start to analyze with SF9.
Does anyone know how to copy a screen shot of a position from Stockfish in to a word doc. I am a chess teachers and could use it in class. I could do it in Chess base but not Stockfish

I guess that they set it by default like that as Stockfish, despite being the strongest engine, missed the recent TCEC final because it drew many games due to that "zero" contempt setting.
But anyway, any sensible guy should toy a bit with the UCI parameters to find the ones that suit him best. Suffice to say that initially Stockfish still starts with just one thread active.
I use devel versions all the time (and I've switched to the faster ASMFish version), but there is no doubt that v.9 is much stronger than v.8.
All that said, I think that such a switch in the chess dot com interface will not make any real difference.
Hahaha how ironical, U mocked and fiercely criticized anyone talking about using Stockfish (and any other engines) in the Opening forum. Do U live a double life ?!?

I need a link for that.

An old story of debates in The Opening forum during the last summer. I'm lazy to search links and not planning to bash our famous IM, sarcastical but helping players in the Opening forum.

You know, sane people use an engine to evaluate tactically complex positions, and do blunderproofing.
But they are also useful to dumbasses, who use an engine to evaluate white's or black's first move.
How good are the chances one being a math professor, a total patzer and mentally thick at the same time?
Quite good, I dare to say- and you are the living proof.
It's silly for an IM to write such things. U can be easily banned cuz of personal attacks, chess.com rules are applied equally to everybody. Well, anyway, I'm stronger than U psychologically, so I don't care.
I have just found that Stockfish 9 can be downloaded now. I also found today that it is used in another chess website. Has it been implemented in chess.com?
