Stockfish and Arena on Windows 10

Here's a thread where I explained how to install the Ufim engine into Arena. The procedure for installing Stockfish should be just about identical.

Many thanks for all the feedback everyone. It is much appreciated, particularly the info from fzweb.

Yes. I am about to do the same thing. I want the engine(s) to provide variations on positions.

I'm guessing you're not sure where the Stockfish engine is in the zip file you downloaded from their website.
Extract all files from the zip, then open the "Windows" folder. There are four .exe files. These are versions of the Stockfish engine for different computer architectures.
If you're running 32-bit Windows, you'll have to use stockfish_8_x32.exe.
The other three versions are for 64-bit Windows, some of which are slightly faster than others. From fastest to slowest:
- stockfish_8_x64_bmi2.exe (only for Intel Haswell processors I believe)
- stockfish_8_x64_popcnt.exe (most modern processors can run this)
- stockfish_8_x64.exe (no special CPU instructions, but will run on any processor)
If you're not sure which version to choose, run an .exe, and in the command prompt enter "bench". If the engine doesn't crash, then it's compatible with your computer, and you can configure Arena to use it.
After that open Arena and from the Engine menu select Install New Engine... and then select the .exe file from the zip that you downloaded (e.g. stockfish-10-win\Windows\stockfish_10_x64.exe).
Then you'll be asked whether to start the engine or not.
Hi all. I am trying to use Stockfish 8 on my Windows 10 computer. I understand that I need to have a GUI or a UCI. I have downloaded Arena. However I have no idea how to get Stockfish working. When I download it from the Stockfish site I end up with a folder on my computer with lots of different files. I have no idea how to get it up and running. I have managed to put another engine into Arena and that is working fine but Stockfish remains a mystery. I would be grateful for any help
