The double cannon attack is possibly the first one a person learns.
Edit: That isn't mate. Cannon to g2. (Oh wait. I missed the part about removing the green cannon. Yes, that would be mate.)

one thread is enough about this nonsense. Stop trolling.
When you say non-sense, do you know actually how many people play this game? more than three times the U.S population.
Its a general chess discussion forum, so people can learn new things.
Actually this would be my last thread for it.

thank god.
What's your problem with this exactly? There is so much tripe in these forums that's worthy of scorn that surely you could be heaping yours somewhere other than in a thread about a game that is very closely related to the game of chess.
This is definitely among the more relevant threads around -- TheLight03, don't let this discourage you -- Xiangqi is a great game and worthy of discussion here.
Im sure it is a great game. The problem is he is starting multiple threads about it. Thats called trolling. One thread is enough. If it doesn't get the response he wanted, which he clearly didnt, then stop making threads period.
Actually, this thread is different than the other two. One of those should go, or simply a thread about Xiangqi as a whole would work fine too.
Hah, trolling really has become a catch all term if multiple topics is trolling now! Wow!
Agree with grobe's #6.

The point is still the same. Make one topic. Its enough. Clearly the interest is not there anyway.
I don't know this one's up to 12 replies already and you're one of the more prolific responders.
Maybe ignore them if you don't want to read them.
Well, there's been a fair amount of discussion about Go here as well.
Perhpas an "Other Strategy Games" forum category would make sense.
I'd say cannon/cannon,
cannon horse, rook/rook, rook/cannon
here's example of mate (removing the green cannon).
Just to show you the complexity of this ancient game
Speaking of Xiang Qi, do you have any idea what the assigned piece values are?
And for the picture, why counldn't the green elephant take the red knight?
The general is in check (mate if you remove the green cannon.)
From the looks of it, that knight has been there for at least one move. It could have been taken during that time.
Actually, xiangchi is chess in China. They refer to what Americans view as chess by the term "Western chess." it is similar to the soccer versus football nomenclature: Americans insist on calling what the rest of the world calls football soccer.
This reminds me of the riddle I heard when I was I little kid: what do Chnese people call "Chinese food." The answer is "food."

Shrug. No skin of my back if someone posts threads about other games. However, this is a General Chess Discussion forum. Something like this belongs in off topic in my opinion. I mean, where does it stop? Can I start posting threads about Dominion (one of my favorite games). Or threads about For the Crown (a Dominion Chess hybrid).
