Such Thing as Wrong Opening 1st Move?

Please forgive the possible "dumb" sounding question (still only been playing chess less than 1 year), but I'm really wondering if there's a possible wrong 1st move (as in the literal opening first move)?

This applies to black or white.

Are there any moves and or responses to moves that would put a player so far behind in terms of future attack/defend potential that it should not be played?

I was thinkingn something along the lines of moving one's A or H pawns up two spaces.  But wondering if these types of seemingly bad moves really would (assuming good competition) place you at a disadvantage.  Or are there ways of plyaing a good game with the A and H pawn openings?

Just looking to see if there are any generally accepted absolute AVOID moves.  Appreciate it in advance guys!

Neither side can lose or get a losing game, on the first move. Having said that, there are definitely some sub-optimal moves for both sides e.g. 1. e4 f5?! or 1. e4 b5?! or 1. h4?!

For the first couple of years, it's probably best if you either play 1. d4 or 1. e4, when White. When Black answer 1. e4 with 1. .... e5 and 1. d4 with 1. .... d5. Keep it simple and you're unlikely to crushed in the first few moves.
