Testing Larry Kaufman's (Komodo developer) handicap

Sort:

According to Larry Kaufman's claim, + 800 rating difference is equivalent to one piece handicap. (He tested dozen of games of Komodo vs Title players)

So,

3600 rated engine can give one piece handicap to 2800 rated GM.

2000 rated player can give one piece handicap to 1200 rated player.

I would like to test an unrated handicap match against 1200 rated player for a couple games. in setting of  your time control preference (1 min to 3 min time control , whatever you prefer).  I will drop a piece in 2nd move, 1. e4 (whatever you play). 2. Ba6 ??.

If you are 1200 player and interested , you can add friend and play 2-4 unrated match.(result should be 50/50 or balanced)

Cheer,

Nay

That's already incorrect.

Kauffman explicitly states that the value of a handicap is dependent upon the lower rated player.

For example giving a piece to an 800 player is not worth as much as giving a piece to a 2000 rated player.

Also, I have to say, this is common sense.

Farm_Hand

Give me a 10 game match.

I will easily obliterate any 1200 rated player with a 1 piece handicap.

BTW no morons i.e. I'll be checking your stats, games played, frequency of games played, account creation date, etc.

If you're actually 1200 I'll accept and you can pick whatever time control you like.

He he, if someone would like to test this handicap, play with @Fram_Hand first. I am happy to watch the results!

BTW IMO you're not a bad guy/girl drmrboss.

Well, my profile photo is mine(photo of 2 years ago) , I am a guy.

Ok, guy.

I didn't mean to be disrespectful.

That would be a great idea but not with such a fast time control. I think maybe 10+5 would still be fast but not too fast.

Hmm,  Longer games are a bit boring. And also , I have to play trash moves under time pressure so that both parties have chances.

3 min is not that fast technically.  I will play with @cyboo and post the games.

Update. I will play 1. e4 and 2. Ba6.

It all depends on the time control I would easily beat a 1000 in bullet a piece down. Same rating gap I'm blitz would be hard. In slow it would be very tough thoug that might be the point where it approaches 50/50. I like the idea of a live stream

Sure.

I don't know how to sacrifice a piece... I guess during the first 5 moves or something I'll put a knight or bishop on a square you're attacking and let you capture it?

Or we could set up a predetermined move order like this

Oh come on, you (or I) could beat a 1000 in bullet a queen down. All you have to do is move fast.

Sure it seems scary being a piece down in a slow game. But you just have to keep things a little bit complicated, and eventually a tactic will present itself.

If not, then sure, the 1200 will win, but usually at some point, even if you have to wait until late in the endgame, there's a tactic and you can win back all your material (or more).

This is very smart . You dropped the least important piece.

Yeah, giving up a bishop would be harder I think, at least if you're playing for the long term... but maybe two knights would be good if you're going for a fast mating attack (? not sure)

One nice thing about giving up the g1 knight is maybe you can castle faster.

cyboo
Umm...when will we play?
cyboo
I like farm hands idea of returning back to the normal position.
cyboo
And I prefer knights...and would prefer to give up a bishop when playing against a lower rated player
cyboo
But I don’t care which piece you drop. Can the games be rated?
