he didnt chicken out, they just didnt accept his terms. In the long tradition of chess the world champion always dictated the rules, as did Karpov and Kasparov after him.

practically you could say KAsparov then chickened out too because he didnt play for the fide champion title.
So his achievment doesnt count as well.

I am not a Fischer fanatic, but I consider him to have made significant contributions to (1) Sicilian theory, and (2) King's Gambit theory. His "bust" of the King's Knight Gambit was later busted in turn, but the move 3...d6 remains important. In the Sicilian, he pioneered huge changes in how White attacks Black in some variations.
What about Adams or Karpov they are really good players
