I say Garry Kasparov and Magnus Carlsen
The best chess player ever
best Player: Bobby Fischer
champion with greatest influence on the 20th century: Bobby Fischer..
achievments?? who are we to judge....
ehm, achievements are easily overseen.
just look at results and titles.
also, gotta disagree on influence: no player was as important as kaspi concerning the last major development in chess, which obv is computer analysis.
but obv pointless to argue with a fisher fanboy. whilst i agree he was a great player, there's no way a player with 1 wc title who chickened out at the first chance to defend said title is the greatest ever. if anything at all, fisher might be on top of a list of the "could have been ubergreat"
no he wasnt as important, GMs actually voted for Fischer.
they also if im not mistaken that Fischer was the greates player.
he didnt chicken out, they just didnt accept his terms. In the long tradition of chess the world champion always dictated the rules, as did Karpov and Kasparov after him.
there is no doubt that Fischer was the greatest ever
practically you could say KAsparov then chickened out too because he didnt play for the fide champion title.
So his achievment doesnt count as well.
Iceman and fischer and fide got along?
The contribution of Fischer, use google...
I think u r just Trolling... If u Play chess you know that Fischer was the best ever.

The strongest chess player ever was Vasily Alexeev; only an idiot -- or someone living in a cave and unaware of the Olympiad -- would dispute this.
Iceman kiddie psychology only Works on Kids, im not wasting my time educating you when u can use google.
Iceman you mean its Time to change your hobbies, making provocative statements even though no1 doubts Fischer was the greatest, just because you are bored and provocate as a hobby

achievements on the other hand, and contributions... ah well, enough of that. it's just pretty telling that you cannot name one contribution of fischer that is of utter importance. might be time to rethink the fanboyism.
I am not a Fischer fanatic, but I consider him to have made significant contributions to (1) Sicilian theory, and (2) King's Gambit theory. His "bust" of the King's Knight Gambit was later busted in turn, but the move 3...d6 remains important. In the Sicilian, he pioneered huge changes in how White attacks Black in some variations.

was it really busted???
So who does everyone think is the best player ever I would say Kasparov or Karpov
