The Immortal Game

"There's a book named The Immortal Game, but I'm not sure whether it is about the immortal, Immortal Game though."
David Shenk used the Immortal Game of Anderssen as a running theme in explaining how chess has benefited every society that ever embraced it throughout history. It's one of the most worthwhile chess books ever written although Mr. Shenk is only a casual chess player.
The terrible truth is that none of the sacrifices was crazy or pointless. Once into the final combination every move is part of a carefully calculated plan, including the opponent's possible replies. They only appear crazy and pointless because they're very difficult for most players to understand. Daunting, ain't it?
In fact if you look at the Najer-Negi game which is linked on the home page you'll see that the golden age of chess is far from over. The truth is chess is limited only by our vision and imagination.
great post, I have actually read David Shenk's book. it is good.
