amazing game a great  bishop sacrifice  on 11. Rg1 which paved the way those two pawns and the rook really bullied the queen into a mistake well done adolf

that was crazy.

I've written/posted on this game before. To me, it's the most exciting game I ever studied. The circumstances that surrounded the match only adds to its greatness....

That was the golden age of chess im my opinion.  I wish theory was still full of crazy pointless sacrifices like that!

I totally agree Chiaro. It's rare today to see those kinds of chances/sacrifices made while the initiative swung back and forth throughout the match.

There's a book named The Immortal Game, but I'm not sure whether it is about the immortal, Immortal Game though.

Hey, there's a (relatively) recent game where black sacrifices his entire queenside (and center) and, in some lines, mates using just a rook and knight (plus an e3 pawn). I seem to think it was a Yusupov game, but I'm not sure. I'm sure though about the pawn on e3! Any help?

David Shenk used the Immortal Game of Anderssen as a running theme in explaining how chess has benefited every society that ever embraced it throughout history. It's one of the most worthwhile chess books ever written although Mr. Shenk is only a casual chess player.

The terrible truth is that none of the sacrifices was crazy or pointless. Once into the final combination every move is part of a carefully calculated plan, including the opponent's possible replies. They only appear crazy and pointless because  they're very difficult for most players to understand. Daunting, ain't it?

In fact if you look at the Najer-Negi game which is linked on the home page you'll see that the golden age of chess is far from over. The truth is chess is limited only by our vision and imagination.

I have seen the Imortal and Evergreen games so many times, but I am yet to tire of them. Adolf Anderssen was a true genius on the board. It's rare now that you will come accross sacraficial brilliance as good as that at high level chess. I think that the Imortal and Evergreen games are the best chess games ever seen or ever will be seen and I don't think anyone can disagree with that...
