There was a Yugoslav GM (back when Yugoslavia was a single country) called Matulovic who was so infamous for taking back moves with the excuse "I said j'adoube!" that he was nicknamed "J'adoubovic" by the other GMs.

#2 Yes I remember hearing that story somewhere! Kasparov got a similar nickname I think after his game with Judit Polgar….
It translates as “What an I doing? If I move that piece I’m lost!”
