The "Stappenmethode" Complete Chess Training System

Hello, All.

I am reading Herman Grooten's "Chess Strategy for the Club Player," since I have never studied any strategy, just tactics.  I found out from it that the Netherldands has an official training system for it's players, or, at least, Grooten makes it sound like a nationally developed system.

Anyway, there are different steps in the system, 1 through (I think) 6.  Has anyone ever used the system.  Does anyone know what elo ratings approximately correspond to each step?

Thanks!

You may not realize it, but all the posts are archived, so if you wanted to type something like "step method"  (steppenmethode might work even better) into that "search forums" box in the upper right you could come up with a few posts.  Something like this:

http://www.chess.com/forum/search?keyword=step+method

Third thread from the top looks promising since it has a couple of links.  Have fun with it.  I checked the step method out a few years ago and decided I have enough to study already, but it does look attractive.

You can read about in english. The steps method is mostly tactics and some strategy too. It is a nice and cheap way to learn. A few pages dedicated to text and explaining and the rest to puzzles (=training). A

ratings (i think):

1 = 1200 (and higher)

2 = 1300

3 = 1400

4 = 1500

etc.

Thanks, baddogno, but I already looked through the archives.  I didn't see anyone address whether the levels accurately correspond to those ratings.  From some of the stuff on the site, assumed it was very likely the case that step 4 was more suited for people trying to make 1500-1650, not 1750, but I might be stronger than my current USCF rating.  (I haven't played in a tournament in 5 years.)

It's supposed to bring the children who diligently follow the program up to 1800 at step 6.

I don't know if this number has been field tested in any way.

the steps method seems to be loads of tactics, my kid has done a few of them, they are great, if a little dry compared to some other books, but if youve done tactics and are looking for strategy im not sure if these are right....I recommend them for tactics though, and kids, great stuff

Eh, I purchased the series.  I met a young lady, originally from the Netherlands, who used the series.  Watching her play blitz, she seemed strong.  I am surprised that the series is supposedly more tactics-laden, because she said the Step method is the only training she's ever done, yet her play was strategic.

I'll probably follow-up with a thread about my experience with the method.
