The real effects of chess on your life

For me it has really pushed my confidence in regard to my intellect. I am only 2 months in, I have started purchasing books and I am now learning more as I go, though this is a game of true intelligence, I feel I have found I have met my match. Chess has made me see myself in a position of weakness so many times, though I hope that will change. I have joined this page to find a community, please add me as a friend I would appreciate this.

It has no effects.
Effects on ur life are only caused by u in relation to chess. it's a board game. If u play it too much then u neglect other aspects of ur life. It's not drinking or smoking, or speeding.

Speaking of intellect, I would like to see if playing chess consistently can help boost my general analytical skills.
To be more specific, these days, I’m busy dealing with some software development challenges many of which are quite intellectually intensive. So I wanna do an experiment on my fluid intelligence and get more immersed into solving these software problems while playing chess on a regular basis.
If I could wrap my head around the aforementioned challenges, it would open the doors of new business opportunities,so I would “indirectly” attribute any “catalyst” effect to playing chess. If no tangible gain would be seen, I’d disregard the impact of chess.
By the way, In case of good news, I will keep you posted man!

I would like to take a fair approach toward the effects of chess, so I am not one of those people believing that chess can immediately turn you into a genius. I think the positive or negative impacts of chess must be investigated with data driven results.

If anything, chess teaches humility. You're always going to lose eventually. When you win, the clouds part and the sun comes shining through.

So does darts, though.
But chess is purely a mental game. Whereas darts is both mental and physical. Something about winning and losing in chess has a purely mental reaction. (or some cursing)

I've only ever been supremely good at one game. I was a good soccer player and played for a local team but that wasn't it. The game I'm talking about is something called fussball. Table football. I didn't like losing very much, at that. It rarely happened but other good players sometimes got lucky.
Guess what, I also was proficient at foosball. Isn't it more like table soccer? With goalies and a net to defend? Maybe not the same as fussball. A friend and me could "hold" a table until we couldn't stand it anymore. Fun game but haven't played in years.

As of now ... It really isn't helping me out.... When I try to focus on chess consistently.... I can't manage my studies.
What impacts (whether positive or negative) has chess had on your personal life since playing it consistently?
Do you think if it has helped you become a better version of yourself somehow or is it not anything more than fun at its best?
Your honest opinions are highly appropriated.
