I was playing a "friend" in Europe last summer and he kept slamming my triple weighted pieces down as to intimidate me.After a few games at least two pieces had the lead weights inside moving.I mentioned it a couple of times but he kept doing it.I should have stopped playing him .
The Rudest Move: knocking opponent's king over
And my set is not the same at all.(I beat him many times and he kept slamming) I feel like throwing it out-it was new.
I am rather amused with this fad going around in non chess circles where the victorious player uses the piece that delivers checkmate, to knock the oppenent's king over. As if to say, 'I win'. A royal slam dunk to 'finish off' the enemy king who lay in ruins. It's hilarious how the media tries to cash in on chess yet the producers of these commercials know next to nothing about the game, including the placement of the pieces, which side the board the pieces should be set up on and most of all this victorious slaying of the king by knocking him over. Sure, all of us at one time have tipped our king in resignation at the club, but even that at times seems a bit unsportsmanlike and overly dramatic. Wouldn't just a simple handshake suffice?
There was one time my opponent saw this antic used in some mutual funds ad on TV and she decided it was a good idea to knock my king over with my expensive Zagreb set. I was shocked. This seems analogous to spitting in your opponent's face. It's like watching NFL players and their illegal pimping moves in the endzone after a touchdown, adding insult to injury in excessive self indulgent celebration.
My question to all players: How would you react to your king be knocked over?
Feel free to be creative in your responses.
A Zagreb set???? Sir, I would have done the same thing to you.

If it's my opponent's set:
I might tell him that he can knock over the king as many times as he'd like. "Here, let me help you by taking the king and throwing it across the room."
If it's my set:
A hothead might threaten him with bodily injury. (Not smart, as everyone sues these days.)
A smarter person might make the claim that by knocking my king over, he has made an illegal move. (Captured my king) Get the TD over and make your case. Even if the TD doesn't give the guy a penalty, I think your opponent will get the message.
Of course, if he actually damages my set, then I'd demand financial restitution.
