Do you find any situations rather like the Tao when playing chess?
One my favorite kinds of wins (I just had one in blitz) is when a checkmate planned, particularly a less obvious one, but if one lines the queen or pieces to make a direct attack the opponent would notice. But it works if the opponent thinks they have you on the (or maybe actually do have you on the run) and push your pieces into the right position... they think you are escaping attack, not setting one up. Then, sometimes it doesn't occur to them to check as closely for attacks. It is similar to Kung Fu where or Tai Chi where often one let's the opponent's energy work against them with slight misdirection or redirection of their energy.
