The ugliest chess set for diagrams in the entire universe

Here's my nomination (it's called "Lines" in our bd editor)

mchess13 submitted a "Maya" set (B&W on B&W bd) and a "Condal" set on a green bd - also from our bd editor along with the 3-D bd submitted by mvtjc;  could everyone pls ID the type of set they submit & where to find out - (in case any masochists out there actually like it) THANKS!

AlCzervik

Never seen that before, but, you're right, ugly. Not only that, I might be confused between the black bishops and pawns, especially in a fast game.

mvtjc

well I don't think it's ugly :P

Keishaeboni

crazy looking

Changgi

It's actually kind of artistic, don't you think? Kind of like the set used in Thinking Machine 4, where the pieces are represented by geometric shapes. Well, mostly, since I don't consider the star (=queen) a geometric shape.

mvtjc

I think the 3D pieces look like s**t

Changgi

Here. I was talking about this:

sw_fanatic

wonder how long it would take to get usedd to those different pieces; i remember i used to play on a site that had a permanent set of different pieces but at least they somewhat resembled normal pieces. These are just random shapes.

Changgi

It's not that hard actually. If you're talking about Thinking Machine, triangle ~ bishop's mitre, 1/4 circle ~ knight's head, square ~ rook's movement, etc. Since the OP's pieces are easy to recognize.

Though when actually playing, sometimes I would miss out on some moves cause I didn't realize what was what for a brief moment...

andrewlong

Do the mushroom pieces move that same as rooks?

i like this set , i use it but with a green marble board

I don't have a problem with the 3D pieces. They could only be used if you're a premium member apparently (excluding vs computer), and I think they do look kind of neat.

Gargleblaster tell us the name of those pieces and where to get them - I don't think they'll qualify for gold, silver or bronze but lets see what everyone else says about them. Like many other sets the black pieces are very hard to see on black squares, and even if they weren't I equate red & black sqs with checkers - a game I like but I don't like checkerboards being used to play chess on.

God almighty that is blinding

GargleBlaster

I just used chessbase and screwed around with the settings until I got something suitably horrid.

Black starts off with an advantage of at least +2.0 there, White can´t even see half the pieces he´s supposed to be attacking!

Also confusing that the purple squares are the "light" ones and the red squares "dark"!
