This is why I don't play chess

Whatever time setting you put, chess players will work to swindle you. No honor.

That was my hard earned 10 points in 10 minutes of work and energy. Guy was crushed from beginning to end, and has the dignity to take the win. (we were both short on time).

When you get games like this once every 10-15 games it takes a toll on you for putting in that much effort and not to get rewarded, when you yourself play a clean game without doing stuff like that. Virtually I should be 150-200 rating points higher if I played ... like whatever that is, but I won't be a better player for it. It's pointless.

I don't play like that and I never have. If you look at my games history maybe I have a dozen games where I have more substantially less material when winning out of my entire games history (I've never accepted wins like this, but many players do) Probably only a few dozen where I win on time with less material, because I'm usually down on time, and trying to make the best moves (not shuffling)

You were playing 3|0. The goal of the game isn't to win material, it's to checkmate the opposing king. If you can't do it in the allotted amount of time, you don't deserve a win. You had several opportunities to force mate at the end of the game, and you hunted pawns instead. If you don't like it, play longer time controls or play faster.

Also, refusing to win on time in short games doesn't make you honorable. It just makes you lose games you deserve to win.

pullin, the clock is just another piece.  Get over yourself and move faster.

That's hilarious. Almost as funny as you complaining about it.

BTW - 'Virtually' means nearly or close to reality. Not reality. Laughing

I must be different from most people I guess. Win, lose or draw, I never complain about the outcome. I play. I try my best and I learn from my mistakes. That's the main goal. Why being emotional? It just leads to nowhere. I win? Okay, I did my job. I lose? Okay, I'll take another look at the game and see what I did wrong. I draw? Well, that was funny then. It has to be simple, exactly like it has to be in life.

im 3

AkumaX

why, do I need to?

Play "3 days per move" games. Take some rest between moves!

I mean your problems with expectations in a 3 0 game are pretty obvious, but I'm going to point out a deeper issue that I think most people will look right over.  Some people might feel a little uncomfortable because this will hit a little too close to home for them.  The phrase that concerns me here is:

"hard earned 10 points"

I see why you think you don't want to play chess anymore, but I think the real problem is why you were playing chess in the first place.

CynthiaMarcoux

Points are a big problem. Personally, I don't care about my points but when I lose to a weak player, a lot of them will say that I don't deserve to be 2000. They react according to my rating. If I was 1600, they would find something else to whine about. As simple as that. People take it too seriously.

Rating points absoulutely dosen't matter at all!

Actually, you can now exchange FIDE rating points for free applie pies at McDonalds now. Laughing

Rating points do matter; they give you some indication that you are progressing.

pavanshahm

Then don't play on the 3/0 time setting.

Yeah, playing people 600 points below you is a pretty good indication you are NOT a true 2000.

MSteen

The rules are the rules. You know what the rules are going in. Everybody knows what the rules are. If you want to play 3/0 games, and your opponents want to use the rules to win, that's the way it's played. You have no complaints.

If you don't like it, play a different time control or play another game entirely--maybe dominoes or Candy Land.

That's exactly what I said. People like you think that those numbers matter and they try to make it personal. I don't care being 2000 or 1400. I just play and enjoy the game while some whine about what I don't care about. :)

That's just funny. It's like studying humans' reactions.

I always wondered how Mighty Mouse was able to fly.

Harvey_Wallbanger

That was, actually, an angst-fart icon. Chess will do that to you. That's why I refuse to play.

Answer is simple - Quick playing garbage chess on chess.com.  Play in over the board events with a 5-second delay (USCF) or 30 second increment (FIDE).

Plus, if you want to be any good, you have to know how to build a well thought out concrete plan, not just be able to push wood.  To do that, you need a couple of hours each!
