I've heard many interesting things about Cyrus' writing style and his interviews on the perpetual chess podcast are fascinating. so I just ordered his "1.d4 with 2.c4" and his 1.e4 repertoire book.

Considering buying his "Opening Repertoire - ...c6" but wanted to make sure I like his writing style first.

Has anyone read his books and have some thoughts on it?

I have one - his Tarrasch book. His style I'd describe as using a lot of wordy colloquial expressions to say things that could be said simply. I think he aims his books at average club players.

The good side is that at times it is like he is at the board with you chatting about the position.

The bad sides are that sometimes he tries too hard to be chatty and other times you just want to get on with the analysis so would appreciate fewer words.

I like explaining positions in words rather than a computer analysis dump but often would appreciate fewer words. I'd buy another of his books only if it was unique (and note that he does seem to keep finding interesting and unique topics). - Bill

-ps- That is based on 1/2 way thru 1 book. I've also worked thru several books on the Tarrasch so maybe I am being too critical.
