Time Handicap?

Is there anyway to set time handicaps? I want to play with a friend who is new to chess and would prefer to have lower time (1 min for me, 5 for them) rather then less pieces. Is this possible or something that will be added sometime soon?

That's no something available to regular members. You can add time in 15 second increments to friends.

Someone asked that question on the last State of Chess.com broadcast and Danny Rensch reacted very favorably.   How long it will take is not clear.

That was written back in Aug 2021. It's now Apr 2023 and still no time handicaps available for friends of unequal strength to play against each other. It's amazing that they could fail to think of such an obvious feature - and then still not add it even when it's pointed out!

There's more around a feature than just coming up with the idea. There's planning on how to implement it in the UI, whether are not to allowed rated games, etc. Add to that, it's very likely a niche feature that wouldn't be used by many, so that would make it a very low priority change

@Martin_Stahl. Yes, clearly it's a low priority. And yes, it's true, planning and implementation are also required to make it happen, not just thinking of it (thank you for pointing out the obvious) - planning and implementation which, evidently, chess.com have been unwilling to invest. As for the question of whether or not to allow handicap games to affect a player's rating, that's trivial and obviously not a real obstacle to implementation (simply don't allow it, no-one would care). And no, this isn't anything "niche"; it's quite common for friends to be of very unequal strength who would enjoy playing a competitive game against each other. Just poor excuses.

The site prioritizes everything and higher impact updates/changes will take precedence. If the site felt it was something that would be used by a lot of members and had a high impact, it would be higher priority.

Please implement time handicap it is impacting the community members negatively as they have to scramble for alternative chess sites.

Yeah, see both sides here. But this doesn't seem so Niche. I've seen Hikaru use his own version in YouTube game. and every chess player has a friend who they might like to play sometime, but taking away a piece is not only demeaning, but changes the actual game of chess
