Time increment

I am a beginner. I have installed the app on phone and was playing 1 min chess. A lot of the players have time increments when they make a move but not me. Is it a premium feature? ... Is it a setting that i am not aware of? ... Feels quite unfair to me as i can't win no matter how fast i play good moves; they pause to think and make up the time lost but my clock keeps running. And they keep sending requests for rematch to boost up their ratings!!!!!!! ... Please someone give some guidance or the site and community stand to lose a keen learner and player.

Just choose one of the time controls that has an increment. All the ones like 5|5, 3|2, 2|1 start with a base of 5, 3 or 2 minutes and add the second number of seconds for each move you make.

As a beginner you probably shouldn't be playing bullet or blitz.  Those time controls are for experienced players to show off their skills, and well; you don't have any skills yet to show off.

As to the other players having time increments and you don't, it's far more likely that you are experiencing lag or even temporary disconnects that give your opponents extra time.  I'll find some links...

Playing fast time controls is ok if you’re playing chess primarily for fun, and where your results are secondary.  But you are unlikely to improve significantly doing this; by playing fast time controls you have little time to think about what you should be doing.  If you’re seriously committed to improving, then I suggest that you...

1. Play longer time controls - a higher percentage of your games should be at the longest possible time controls, including daily chess...so you have time to think about what you should be doing...
