For an ambitious goal, you're missing a key ingredient ... who's going to feed your improvement feedback loop?
- StrongER player/friend? (evidently has to be 2000+ rated for you to hit your goals)
- Coach? (once again, 2000+ rated)
-A computer program (that can do more than spit evaluation scores at you)
This person will need to FREQUENTLY review your games and identify your mistakes and tell you to NOT do certain things. He will also tell you WHY (something nearly all computer software sucks at) move A is better than move B in "this" kind of position.
You will sponge advice from him, learn to think like him and incrementally remove your existing bad chess habits.
Sure you can try going it alone, but it is definitely way more difficult to go from 1400 to 1800+ without any mentoring.
