Top-secret method for chess improvement that THEY don't want you to know about!

That's right, folks. I'm about to reveal an ancient, little-known, and extremely controversial, but highly efficient approach for improving your chess skills. It may seem shocking, and it goes against what THEY have led you to believe, but it has been proven to work.

And this method is...

WORK.

Unexpected, isn't it? This crazy but very effective trick was developed in the mountains of Nepal 4000 years ago and has been used by everyone from Steinitz to Carlsen. Not only is it good for your chess, it's all-natural, organic, non-GMO, and gluten-free.

I know what you're thinking. "You're insane! That'll never work! That goes against everything I've read in the forums on chess.com!"

Well, let me address the concerns one by one:

* Instead of actually working on my game, I can just post on the forums asking random strangers to recommend a shortcut for becoming better without studying!

 - Um, no.

* The key to improvement is picking the right opening! I mean, the fact that I start hanging pieces within the first 10 moves of every game is clearly because I answer 1.d4 with the QGA instead of the Slav, and not because I don't work on tactics.

- Um, no.

* I'll get better by simply playing hundreds of blitz and bullet games every day, without even stopping to analyze why I lose!

- Um, no.

* I can get an international title like FM, IM, or even GM magically, just because I want to! Look at all these people on chess.com with those letters next to their username. If they can get them, so can I! How? Who cares! I just know I can! And if I post about it, it'll make it even truer!

- Um, no.

* Oh, I know! The key to improvement is to whine and complain! I'll post on the forums crying, screaming and ranting every single day. The tactics trainer is unfair! The server is too slow! And worst of all, my opponents are all cowardly and unethical! I mean, look at what they do - I earn a victory in the game through my sheer genius, and instead of resigning honorably, they checkmate me. The nerve! As long as I blame everything else besides myself, I'm guaranteed to become a champion.

- Um, no. Also, grow up and stop clogging the forums.

Now that I have assuaged the most frequent concerns, I hope some of you will give this controversial method a try. It may feel weird at first, but stick with it, and you will see that it really produces results.

Good luck, and thank you for your attention.

I thought the approach to the thread was pretty funny. Reminds me of one of those advertising/ survey sites you get directed to sometimes

I thought 100 blitz and bullet should help, but there are  problems. Playing exlusively blitz and bullet and avoiding longchess and analyzing does not give you much endgamepractice, and because of short time the opposition is to weak to punish our inaccurasies and bad plans. Therefore its easy to get innacurate habits .  Longer timecontrols and analyzing is needed to become much better. The best blitzplayers in the world was really good at longer time controls before they became the best blitzers in the world (I am talking about Carlsen and Nakamura).  Blitzing with analyzing after the game can help a lot. Andreas Skotheim does a lot of that and have made big leaps. He is today leading the Norwegian championship (landsturneringen) , class 1, with an amazing ratingperformance , 460 above his rating.

Bravo, chuddog. I'd like to add one concern to your list and make an observation.

* I don't have to study a position. My engine will tell me the best move.

Um, no. You will not improve in the slightest that way.

The observation is that players who do work hard can still fail to improve their results significantly because they study the wrong things (such as trying to memorize their favorite openings out to move 25) or fail to study effectively. I was a prime example of both before giving up on chess 25 years ago. Trying to do better now, but at age 66 my best shot isn't for myself, it's somehow convincing young players that they shouldn't repeat my mistakes.

Study. Play. Study. Play.
